Good Dog

Life of a Rescue (Foster)

Working with dogs in a rescue gives a person a lot of joy, some frustration, and sadness. Dogs come and go in our lives more often than most people. It is good when we find them a new home. There are, however, a few adoptions that bring us the most joy. The adoption that is the perfect match. I can not describe it, you just know when it happens. Then on rare occasions, we see the before image of the dog or hear the circumstance of the dog before being rescued, and now get to revel in the dog’s miraculous change. To see what they were and witness what they become is joyous.

Dogs are such loving creatures. It is frustrating how many of them get treated, abused, and abandoned. It is frustrating when they get tossed out like garbage.

On rare occasions (okay, often) we get a dog that we just fall in love with them. Most often it is not how they look but their personality. We each have our favorite breed, color, size, and so on of dogs. The dog’s personality is what wins over my heart. It is a sad day when they get adopted. It can be heartbreaking when they leave, the only thing that helps, is the knowledge that they will be getting way more one on one personal attention from their new family than they would get from me. We have too many dogs that we have to share our time with.

We have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people that treat their animals as part of their family and never give up on them.
